Educational Philosophy
I believe that students need to be actively engaged in their learning. In the classroom, the students will build a healthy environment and have a strongly knit community to facilitate learning. I think it is very important to understand that all students can learn regardless of background. I believe in not discriminating against any student, and will not tolerate any discrimination in my classroom. Race, and religion should not have a key role in learning and should not compromise learning in any way. I believe that teaching my students should be systematic and consistent in order to provide them a comfortable and predictable environment to learn in.
I believe it is very important to understand how my students learn. I rely on Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory to show exactly how every student is different, therefore learns differently. Understanding that not all students are the same kind of learners is important in every classroom. The teacher needs to be able to be versatile enough to adapt their teaching styles and methods to ensure all the students are able to understand and learn the material. I also believe that along with applying Gardner’s theory, teachers also have to understand that the rate at while students learn is different too.
The most important quality I bring into the classroom is the drive I have for each student to be pushed hard to achieve their absolute best. With young students it is important to keep them on task and focused on the activity at hand. I believe each student should preform to the best that they possibly can while in my classroom. Not all students will be able to perform at the same level, but with a sense of community and a teacher that facilitates learning through multiple mediums of technology, and strives for parental and community involvement as well.
